Thank you so much for these videos! I just found your channel today, and oh my word...this is teaching me already. I am the only caregiver for my husband who suffered a cardiac arrest and subsequent strokes in a few areas of the brain, with anoxic injury, they said due to how long he was without oxygen before they got him back. Most of the doctors wanted to put him down, quite literally, but he had a neurosurgeon already who came when I called and fought for him. He told me he has multiple patients with worse injury who are participating in life but it takes 3-4 years. Neil indicated he wanted to fight, to try, so that is what we are doing. We are 6 months out, and he has had a half dozen instances in the last month where a few words suddenly are there, then gone. He has said my name, said "mom', asked me" what last happen"... Then the words are gone. I had to fire the last ST because she wouldn't accept he can swallow and all she did weekly was come stick a lemon swab in his throat, say he didn't swallow, and leave. He was just shutting down when she came. New one, first appt he followed all commands, swallowed multiple times, and she was asking "why did the other one say he couldn't do any of this and isn't progressing?!" she has scheduled his swallow study, and gave me a chart to start working on figuring out what letters he recognizes. I am doing my best but am tired and feel inadequate... Just hearing this today, you gave me a place to start. Sorry for writing so much, but you are making a difference. I'll be on your website this week. He is bedridden, total assistance, but progressing bit by bit.

I have dysarthria due to cp, one time I was involved in a hit or miss car accident. The guy I almost hit got upset with me and called the police. The police officer accessed the situation and came back and told me. The guy never heard of cp or anyone having a speech impediment so he assumed that I was drunk that’s why I almost hit him. Thankfully with my cp I have a great sense of humor 😂

yes. I went from barely keeping three words that were in relation and not being able to answer to yes and no questions with only the ability to say no, to fluent and clear speech after two years. I did very little verbal talking and worked internally on the causes that aphasia was stemming on. By doing so, I sound perhaps better than I have in the last 15 years fluently. 24/7 work, you have to drop everything down to cutting your own nails. It's the same intensity you had and desire you had when you were a baby and wanted to talk but the muscles and pathways in the brain were not exorcised. I treated myself like an infant and got the same results. I worked on typing and word structure first. And now that those pathways were strengthened, branching off to other forms of communication, like talking and expression came much more easily. It is like strengthening a core body muscle to the point you can start to work on specific extremities like your arms when doing weight training. The brain is a muscle. My issue is that I have since the beginning had sever head pain whenever I try to access memories and turn them to verbal words. A 5-10 minute talk about simple life things, like driving and naming of roads and cities, will result in a day and 16 hours of head pain. but that can be in relation to the years of head trauma through gang torture, where their goal was to make me, in their words, "so schizophrenic that I wont be able to get help". Since the beginning if I tried to say anything I would get stuck on the first syllable, eyes roll back, convulse and feel the floor come up to my back. All while dealing with other symptoms like a 4 second memory and the inability to barely stand or walk. I would say about 90% of my brain was numbed and had very limited function. Having to figure everything out every 4 seconds, makes it hard to even get help, let alone take two steps and realize you are hungry or need to use the bathroom. One 24 hour day would be about 2100 days if I tried to think back when asked, which makes it hard to remember specifics when asked to think back or what happened. It overloads you fairly quickly.

So, I think I’m not confident while speaking because embarrassment. But yes, your video pointed out to learn and re-learn the words daily so that it will become your vocabulary!!!!
